IBM XL Fortran Compiler

The IBM XL Fortran Advanced Edition compiler for Linux on POWER™ is a high performance F95 compiler based on the mature compiler technology of IBM XL Fortran for AIX. The version designed for IBM Linux on POWER™ is provided as a command line compiler, which supports OpenMP and auto parallelization capabilities and generates highly optimized Fortran code. Single named user or concurrent user licenses are available. Licenses purchased from Absoft also include 12 months maintenance and upgrades at no additional charge.

XL Fortran for AIX/POWER systems is also available.

XL Fortran ISO specifications:

The full American National Standard Fortran 90 language (referred to as Fortran 90 or F90), defined in the documents American National Standard Programming Language Fortran 90, ANSI X3.198-1992 and Information technology - Programming languages - Fortran, ISO/IEC 1539-1:1991(E). This language has a superset of the features found in the FORTRAN 77 standard. It adds many more features that are intended to shift more of the tasks of error checking, array processing, memory allocation, and compatibility with legacy code and so on from the programmer to the compiler.

The full ISO Fortran 95 language standard (referred to as Fortran 95 or F95), defined in the document Information technology - Programming languages - Fortran - Part 1: Base language, ISO/IEC 1539-1:1997.

IBM XL C/C++ Compiler

The IBM XL C/C++ Compiler, XL C/C++ is part of a family of IBM compilers that support C and C++ programming under Linux on IBM's BladeCenter JS20, JS21, and POWER4/5 systems. OpenMP and auto parallelization for multi-core hardware is supported.

IBM XL C/C++ for AIX is also available.

NEW - Recently announced is XL C/C++ for Multi-Core Acceleration for Linux, V9.0. IBM's XL C/C++ for Multi-Core Acceleration for Linux is a cross-compiler that fully exploits Cell Broadband Engine Architecture. Cell Broadband Architecture is an innovative and powerful microprocessor architecture that extends 64-bit Power Architecture technology to Cell technology.

The code base for all of these C and C++ compilers is the same and meets ISO standards, making source-level portability of your applications between IBM and non-IBM platforms easier than ever before. FDPR-Pro - IBM's post optimizing Feedback Directed Program Restructuring (FDPR) product allows further optimization of existing applications without the need to recompile. Performance increases of up to 30% have been obtained with FDPR_Pro. Available for AIX/POWER systems.

  • Disk space - approximately 200 MB for product packages, minimum 2GB for paging, minimum 512 MB for temporary files
